A coffee with… Broker, Annie Young

Our Broker and Wellbeing Champion Annie Young is all about keeping everyone happy, from clients to colleagues!

Do you enjoy working at Romero?

Definitely, I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else!

What’s been your favourite thing about being here?

The people and the general office vibe. I genuinely love my team, want to come to work and enjoy been in the office. I love the wellbeing element that Romero implements too. I think it is such an important focus to have for everyone.

What have you found most challenging?

It’s a busy office and we of course aim to deliver a high level of service to our clients, so sometimes it’s a bit of a balancing act to “get stuff done” while managing clients’ expectations and remaining diligent. Luckily that’s what I thrive on!

If you had to sum up your role in one sentence, what would it be?

Hmm that’s a hard one as we do such a variety of things… I’d say: “Keeping everyone happy whilst keeping everything compliant.”

What has surprised you most about working here?

How everyone is so supportive, from my team to the people above, everyone is working to the same goal collectively!

What would you like to change about insurance?

People’s idea that anyone in insurance is out to get them or trip them up. Insurance is all about working together to get the right solution.

Where are you in 5 years’ time?

I would like to have progressed myself. At the very least I would like to have completed my Dip CII.

Where is Romero in 5 years’ time?

Still expanding, still doing what we do but better!

Where did you work previously, and what did you do?

I’ve worked in insurance for about nine years, starting off in personal lines and progressing to commercial around five years ago where I’ve worked as a broker for a couple of different brokerages in Yorkshire.

What drives you to succeed?

Being the best I can be for me and my son. They money helps, too.

Sum yourself up in 5 words.

Clumsy, happy, articulate, funny (I like to think) and kind or at least I try my very best to be!

What’s your perfect Sunday?

A lazy morning with my little boy then getting outside for a big walk or adventure followed by some McNuggets!

If you were a biscuit, what would you be and why?

Wagon wheel. Hard and plain on the outside but soft and delicious on the inside!

If you were stranded on a desert island and could take one book, one luxury and one song, what would they be?

I would take “The Woman That Went to Bed for a Year” by Sue Townsend, Creme Eggs as my luxury and “Belter” by Gerry Cinnamon – great song to bellow from the lungs.
