Romero’s partnership with Kevin Sinfield

Romero and the Rhino

At Romero we are very proud of our partnership with Leeds Rhinos rugby legend, Kevin Sinfield.

Kevin has been on an amazing journey in recent years, raising money for charitable organisations. He ran seven marathons in seven days in December 2020; the following November 2021 he ran 101 miles, going the extra mile. And Kevin has recently ran the Ultra 7 in 7, that’s seven ultra marathons in a row, 40 miles a day, from Edinburgh to Old Trafford in Manchester. Most recently, he made national news when carrying his friend and Rhinos teammate, Rob Burrow, over the finish line of the Rob Burrow Marathon.

Over the past three years we have supported him, dedicating £10,000 each year. We’ve tried to promote Kevin’s achievements as much as possible. We believe Kevin to be a paragon of the virtues we aim to reflect and respect at Romero Insurance Brokers – dedication, hard work and treating others exceptionally.

In light of Kevin Sinfield’s most recent huge achievements, we roundup his last three years, illustrating the relationship between Romero Insurance Brokers and Kevin Sinfield.

2020 - 2021

The famous 7-in-7 received praise from across the world. The initial target of £77,777 for Rob Burrow and the MND Association was smashed early on in the challenge and following Sinfield’s seventh marathon the fundraising total reached over £2,000,000. Kevin incredibly beat the global average marathon time of 4 hours and 21 minutes on all seven occasions!

The total now stands above £2.7 million, that’s 3528% of the original target. Kevin received an OBE from the late Queen, adding to his decorated career of 2015 Sports Personality of the Year runner-up and Rugby League Treble Winner.

In early 2021, Kevin announced his partnership with Romero Insurance Brokers.

We also took the opportunity to sit down with Kevin at Headingley Stadium and discuss some of our shared values. Romero’s original series, The Rhino at Romero, covers Kevin’s background in rugby league, his success as well as his charity-work achievements.

2021 - 2022

Kevin Sinfield’s next challenge – The Extra Mile Challenge – saw Kevin run from Leicester Tigers’ home at Mattioli Woods Welford Road to Emerald Headingley Stadium in Leeds in 24 hours. The total was 100 miles, but it ended up that the team needed another mile, and so it was dubbed the extra mile, running a total of 101 miles. The name also symbolises Kevin’s mental fortitude and determination.

Kevin’s efforts, once again, were impactful and inspirational, successfully raising awareness of such a cruel disease, MND, and the families of those affected by it. As the ambassador for our company, Romero supported Kevin all the way. We sponsored his shirt as he ran 101 miles in 24 hours. Running four marathons back to back is an amazing achievement, and Romero is proud of our ambassador!

In September of 2021, Romero Insurance Brokers cycled the coast to coast route fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK.

The Coast2Coast raised over £15,000, having cycled 173 miles in two days from Morecambe to Bridlington. The ride was in memory of late Club Insure Director, Lloyd Pinder who was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Club Insure and The Romero Group continue to have that same commitment to supporting Lloyd Pinder, late Club Insure Director, and the cause close to his heart. We are determined Lloyd’s spirit lives on through the work we do to fundraise for Prostate Cancer UK. After smashing our £10,000 target, Kevin Sinfield warmly congratulated CEO Justin Romero-Trigo and the team on their achievement.

We were fortunate enough for Kevin to come and join us at our annual golf day at Moor Allerton Golf Club in 2021. He also helped us launch our new branch in Harrogate. On both occasions he spoke earnestly on the importance of donating toward MND research and why he pushes himself so hard.

2022 -2023, and beyond...

We again supported Kevin by donating £10,000 and sponsoring his shirt for his most recent fundraising challenge, the Ultra 7 in 7.

In November 2022, Kevin Sinfield completed the third in his epic trilogy of challenges, adding another £2 million to the total he’s raised to support the fight against motor neurone disease. Kevin’s 280-mile route took him from Edinburgh to Manchester and saw him run more than 40 miles every day for a week.

The likes of Paul Scholes, Alistair Brownlee, Jamie Peacock joined Kevin on his epic journey. And seven days after embarking on his Ultra 7 in 7 challenge, Kevin and his support team crossed the finish line at Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester, on Saturday 19 November. He was greeted by a standing ovation from the 70,000-strong crowd at the men’s Rugby League World Cup final.

He then went on to found and promote the Rob Burrow Marathon in May 2023. This was Leeds’ opportunity to give back, take part in our own ‘sinfieldian‘ challenge and also show Kevin how much our Humble Hero meant to us. Many members of the Romero team took part at the marathon, finding the experience emotional and overwhelming.

Club Insure at the Rob Burrow Marathon

Prior to the Rob Burrow Marathon, we had the opportunity to sit down with Kevin and reflect on his recent achievements.

From his success in the Gallagher Premiership with Leicester Tigers to now England Rugby Defence Coach, Kevin gives credit to his partnerships and support network. He mentions it was “a dream come true” to finally host and complete the Rob Burrow Marathon. But most of all, Kevin wanted to talk to us about the importance of social connections, and provides some life lessons that anyone from any walk of life can take inspiraiton from.

As Kevin continues to inspire us all at Romero, we are upping our own fundraising efforts.

Just as Kevin continues to better himself and his efforts year on year, we are aiming to top last year’s Coast2Coast achievement with another massive road trip across Britain.

The Pinder 200 is Romero Insurance Brokers and Club Insure’s fundraising challenge, postponed from September 2022, taking place in 2023. The team will be raising money for Prostate Cancer UK by cycling from our new Leeds office to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. The Pinder 200 will be a 200 mile cycle ride in memory of Club Insure Director, Lloyd Pinder, with the goal to raise £25,000.
